Mads Mikkelsen On Johnny Depp In ‘Fantastic Animals’: “Things Have Changed. We’ll See If He…”

Mads Mikkelsen assures that it is entirely possible that Johnny Depp will return to the saga of the ‘Harry Potter’ universe: ‘Fantastic Animals’, following the outcome of his lawsuit against Amber Heard.

Depp gave life to the villain Gellert Grindelwald in the 2018 film, ‘Fantastic Animals: The Crimes of Grindelwald’. In 2020 he was removed from the cast of the saga due to accusations against him by his ex-wife. He was replaced by Mikkelsen.

On June 1 of this year, the jury found in favor of Depp on numerous charges against him. And, although the parties involved have appealed the verdict, this result seems to be giving the actor back his career, which seemed to have been frozen.

Following this, Mikkelsen suggested that the door could open again for Depp within the ‘Fantastic Animal’ saga, commenting, “Now things have changed. He’s won the trial, so we’ll see if he comes back.

He might. I’m a big fan of Johnny. He’s an amazing actor, he did a fantastic job. I couldn’t copy him. It was impossible to do it because there was so much of him. It would have been creative suicide. So we had to come up with something else, something that was mine and created a bridge between the two.”

“It was intimidating. His fans were very, very sweet, but also very tenacious. I didn’t interact with them a lot, but I could understand why their hearts were broken.” added the actor.

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ had the worst box office opening of all the Harry Potter saga films to date. A new release has not yet been officially announced, but J.K. Rowling did mention that a total of 5 films were expected.

Mikkelsen also commented that he would have liked to talk to Depp about the whole thing: “It would have been nice to have talked about it. To clear the air somehow. Maybe I’ll see him in the future.”

Johnny Depp has not spoken on this issue, but we have been able to see how his career begins again to revive. His first images have appeared as King Louis XV, in the French film directed by Mäiwenn. Also, Depp will direct the new film produced by Al Pacino, about the life of the Italian artist Modigliani.

The actor said after the end of the trial that the jury “has given me my life back. The best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun.” It seems that his predictions were true, it remains to be seen if Mikkelsen’s will also prove to be true.
