Nicki Minaj is about to receive the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place on August 28. The rapper will take the opportunity to offer a performance at the ceremony, which she has not done since 2018 as Variety rightly reminds us.
“Nicki has broken the barriers of hip-hop for women with her versatility and creative talent. She has rocked the music industry and installed her status as a global superstar with an alluring mix of records and a genre-defying style, all while remaining ‘Nicki’ without pandering,” Bruce Gillmer, president of music programming for Paramount +, said in a statement.
A decade of success
Nicki Minaj has already been nominated 17 times at the VMAs and has won five awards there, including best hip-hop video for Super Bass in 2011.
The following year, she took the stage of the competition for the first time with Alicia Keys on her track Girl on Fire. Previously, artists as diverse as Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, Kanye West and Missy Elliot have won the Video Vanguard Award.
